Is there a cause for human rights?

In a nation like America the subject of human rights seem to be distant from their everyday lives. They don’t feel like it is something that directly impacts the quality of their lives. We as citizens in the United States do not fear our government to imprison, persecute, and terminate our lives due to our expressing an opinion, or for our religious faith. Therefore, the subject of human rights appear abstract, foreign, and separated by great distance, and not much attention is given to it. The truth of the matter is that the violation of human rights affects us all and much more directly that we think.

How does it affect everyone?

Where human rights are violated it becomes the greatest abortion mill for human potential that there is. For example, sex trafficking enslaves a woman and aborts her potential and contribution to society and we all suffer as a consequence of her unreleased potential. How many vaccines, cures, and how many other medical and scientific breakthroughs to help human suffering have been terminated by violating human rights? A man who merely expresses his opinion concerning a government or about his faith is then imprisoned, beaten, and in many cases killed.  According to Amnesty International more than 1/3 of governments, 62 out of 160, locked up prisoners of conscience – people who were simply exercising their rights and freedoms. Another staggering statistic is that there are twenty even million people currently enslaved around the world. Can you imagine what is locked up inside a community of multiplied millions? There are many nations of the world who do not have twenty seven million people as a population, so in essence this an entire nation of people who’s potential is being withheld from the world.

If I am living with a terminal disease in Canada, and the knowledge for the cure was inside of a person who was killed twenty years ago in a country where his or her religious beliefs were not tolerated, then my future has been affected by it. That violation of their human rights has now directly affected and impacted my life.

What can be done?

Exposing things by media and social outlets are impactful in this day and hour. Persistently staying on topic and keeping human rights as a headline issue is imperative. By doing so through articles for newspapers, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and a host of others, it will create a reaction in the human heart of the readers. This creates an accountability for governments who have citizens becoming proactive and holding their leaders responsible to uphold the constitutions of their respective countries and human rights charter of the United Nations.

Become a part of an organization like the Human Rights Global Congress. They have goals of becoming a voice for every human regardless of race, ethnicity, financial status, or any circumstance they are in. HRGC is not an advocacy or lobbyist group being secretly funded for an organization’s agenda but objectively carrying the human rights of the United Nations as a right for ALL global citizens without partiality or favoritism. If you are a human-being then you deserve to live and be protected.

Incorporate teaching into our schools globally on human rights. Make it a required curriculum of study and engage the students in discussion. Help them understand the perils of the past, open their eyes to the present situation, and motivate them to become active for a different future. Make sure the curriculum is devoid of activist agendas, religious slants, and personal bias, but permit it to be conveyed objectively letting it stand on the human rights charter alone. By doing so, it dissolves the confusion between civil rights and human rights. Understanding the difference promotes comprehension of the value of human life.

A daunting task? Yes, but every goal being reached begins by taking the first step. We can’t afford another twenty years of aborted potential – let’s help it be released so all can experience the benefit!!!
